Track monitoring at 3 locations on the Newmarket Subdivision near Downsview Park.
Beacon completed directional drilling at the 3 sites, which required track monitoring to check for settlement outside of the allowable limit. Groma installed targets on the web of the rails, and iron bars were installed by Beacon along the corridor and the alignment of the drilling.
Before constructions, baseline readings were taken of all points. Groma was on site continuously during drilling to monitor the track movement.
Following construction, Groma surveyors monitoring the points one daily for 2 weeks, then twice weekly for one month. All monitoring reports were sent directly to Beacon.

Track Monitoring
When construction takes place in the immediate vicinity of a rail line, monitoring of track movement is required to ensure that the construction will not impact safe use of the rails. We can install metal pins at the centreline of the rail, and/or targets which are glued onto the track or other items nearby. Using total station, we will survey a baseline of the pin/target coordinates before construction. During construction, we will survey the pins/targets on a schedule decided by the client, and calculate movement from the baseline in a daily Excel table.
