Stationary LiDAR scanning at 4 locations along the Weston Subdivision/UP Express corridor (Bloor GO, Weston GO, Etobicoke North GO & UP Express elevated bridge) to capture cross sections of each train envelope.
Prior to scanning, top of rail was surveyed at each location for the client to determine the location where scanning would be focused. Using the FARO scanning equipment, and coordinating with on-site flagging protection to anticipate coming trains, the LiDAR team would complete a scan of the chosen track location as each train passed over the course of a 16-hour day during regular train schedules. Surveyors were mindful of safety concerns with scanning close to moving trains.
The client was provided with all cross sections from the scans at each location, which were extracted from the point cloud data.
